  • Darebin's Backyard Harvest festival:

You are invited to take part in the Darebin's Backyard Harvest Festival

The Darebin Ethnic Communities Council has been funded by the Darebin City Council to organise the first Darebin's Backyard Harvest Festival. This is a great opportunity for residents of Darebin and who have a passion for growing food in their home gardens. This project has the potential of becoming an annual festival in the city of Darebin. It aims to celebrate what migrants have been doing from the moment they set foot in Australia, have opportunities to teach, learn from each other and network around an area of interest. This will open many opportunities for people to celebrate their passion for growing food in their backyards.
The participants will have the opportunities to win great prizes. There will be also tours for people to visit the gardens during the Darebin's Backyard Harvest Festival in March 2011. All entries must be in by February 23, 2011.

  • Ethnic Elders: Treasures or Liabilities?        Over the last decade the northern metropolitan area of Melbourne has seen a dramatic increase of an ethnic ageing population rapidly coming through.  This social trend has been putting pressure on the local councils and local aged service providers.  How best to meet the needs of the elderly from a linguistically and culturally diverse background?  This forum will debate aged care policies and discuss the best way forward for service provision for CALD senior citizens.
